Sushi’s Photography Journey!

Meet Sushi the Frenchie! Liz had a wonderful time photographing this sweet boy near Baldwin Park in Central Florida. His mom, Melissa, had a beautiful location picked out that she and Sushi visited often on their walks. Melissa had a few concerns about signing Sushi up for a portrait session but, after speaking with Liz, she was reassured they could capture some amazing photos that would look great in Melissa’s home!

The Location

The first step to choosing a location is the scenery. Selecting a location that has lots of points of interest in areas where the landscape varies is key to adding diversity to the final gallery. Tree coverage is always a bonus as working in harsh light conditions is not always ideal. Melissa thought a cute nature walk in her neighborhood might be a good location for Sushi’s photo session! As soon as Liz knew Melissa had a special location in mind that differed from the pre-scouted locations she took to the web! We live in an amazing time! Usually, a quick google maps search with the terrain and street view can give Liz a pretty good idea of if the location is going to give the type of feel needed for the session. After a thorough look around Liz knew this spot would be great for Sushi!

On the day of the shoot, Liz arrived in plenty of time before the session to scout around the area and find the best photo opportunities. This allowed her to optimize all the time in the session to focus on Sushi and capturing images. Although there is time spent walking from place to place during the session Liz’s main goal is to get your pup in front of the camera as much as possible!

Melissa’s Concerns

After taking a look at Liz’s work Melissa had some concerns about Sushi’s ability to be off leash and the fact that although he was a super good boy he did not know a lot of tricks or commands.

Did you know that almost all of the dogs in Liz’s photos were actually on leash? Most places require dogs to be on a leash at all times. Just because we are taking photos doesn’t mean we are allowed to break the rules that are in place to help keep your pup and other visitors safe! Liz will provide a black slip-lead if needed, but she always recommends bringing your dog in whatever they are comfortable wearing; collars, harnesses, head halters, etc. The most important factor is keeping your pup safe, happy, and comfortable at all times!

Your dog does not need to know fancy tricks, or tons of commands to be able to produce stunning images. In all of Sushi’s images, he is wearing Liz’s black slip-lead collar and Melissa was standing no farther than 3 feet away. During the editing process, Liz will carefully review every single inch of the image to ensure that not even the tiniest detail is out of place. Removing any collars, leads, shadows, persons, or distracting elements from the image.

The Reveal

Why does Liz require a reveal session instead of offering an online gallery?

As part of your photo journey, Liz offers a reveal session once all your images are completed. There are several reasons Liz decided to offer this service:

  1. During the reveal session you will get the chance to view all of your images in the best way possible! Liz’s focus is on quality over quantity. All images are hand selected to provide you with a beautifully diverse photo gallery to select from. By guiding you through the images Liz can provide her professional opinion on products, gallery designs, and mounting locations.

  2. You may request editing changes and Liz will always do her best to accommodate. Most of Liz’s work is known for its matte and moody backgrounds, yet still keeping the subject light and airy while working with the warm evening light. At the end of Sushi’s session, Liz could not help but snap some photos of him in this small field of wildflowers (photo above). Sushi’s pet parents loved the image, but wanted something that they could later frame along with it so we made some adjustments to one of the gallery images to bring back the greens! Once these were approved by Melissa, Liz was then able to prepare the Memory Capsule for shipment! (see changes below)

  3. This last one is more of a selfish reason, but Liz loves to see her client’s reactions! Watching these images come to life and creating memories that will last a lifetime is the reason Liz decided to become a pet photographer. She wanted to give pet parents the chance to capture the personality, quirks, and traits of their pups. To have something to look back on for years to come and recall every detail that made your pup who they are.

The Products

At the beginning of Melissa’s photography journey, she discussed with Liz that she was specifically looking to have some professional images of Sushi and was wanting to add some more personal artwork to her home. During the Reveal Session, Liz asked Melissa a few questions about her home’s color and style to help determine which wall products would look best. Melissa decided to go with a statement piece, a matted print, and a few digitals to top it all off!

For her statement piece, Melissa chose a stunning 16” x 24” Deckled Edge in a natural barn wood frame. A more modern piece of art while still incorporating those rustic vibes. The piece is printed on fine art paper with hand-torn edges making each photo truly unique. Combined with a recessed Float Frame for a perfectly finished and stunning display. Prints are mounted with a 1/4" space between the frame and the print, so the image appears to be floating within the frame. This sleek design will look perfect in any area of your home!

Liz’s matted prints are printed on Lustre paper which is available in multiple different textures and finishes. This is sure to give your print that museum-quality look and to top it off is a layer of Protective Coating to provide protection against fingerprints, dust, and scratches! Melissa chose an 11” x 14” print set in a 16” x 20” mat.

Last but not least was the USB of 3. All of Liz’s digitals are delivered in a wooden box with an engraved USB. This is to ensure it is protected and does not decide to disappear in your desk drawer. Use your Memory Capsule as a beautiful piece of desktop décor and store all of your valuable USB drives in one place!

Liz loves being able to bring all pet parents personalized fine art of their pups, no matter their level of obedience or excitability. A few quick seconds in some beautiful scenery is all that is needed to capture those memorable moments which can be displayed in any area of your home.
